First Test - November 3, 2018 - Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe
Saturday, November 1, 2026 - After checking out of the Radisson Blu - Chattogram Bay View hotel in early morning, I flew back to Dhaka, then onto to Sylhet. To my surprise, the Bangladesh team was on the same flight to Dhaka. I first encountered Coach Phil Simmons while deboarding, after which I realized that the entire team was team was on board sitting not too far from me. We were also on the same shuttle bus back to the terminal. Phil and I had a nice chat, and I reminded him that I got him out caught and bowled in the first semi-professional West Indian league held in Jamaica in 1997.When we got back to the terminal, I also saw Wasim Khan, the man responsible for my driver. He approached me an Phil and began chatting to Phil. However, neither of us recognized each other.
I then went on to catch my connection to Sylhet. Upon arrival, I took an Uber and then arrived at the complex and was met by Venue Manager, Joydeep Das Sujok. We had a good chat and enjoyed some tea and biscuits in his office, after which we walked over to the main ground. This is most scenic of the Bangladeshi grounds, the only one with grass banks. Joydeep took me to the middle of the field as well as inside the main pavilion where we looked at a mini museum of sorts.
